Where credits run out

A novel is about half a million characters.

A 90,000-word novel is roughly 500,000 characters. On a credit plan that is most of a month on ElevenLabs Pro, and many months on Starter. Narration, course material and long documents add up quickly.

VoicedByMe runs its voice model on your graphics card or Apple silicon chip, so the hundredth hour of audio costs the same as the first. Make audiobooks with chapters, save audio files, and redo a take as often as you like.

Made for

Long text, private text, lots of text.

Narration and audiobooks

Consistent voice across long documents, with chapters found automatically.

Private material

Scripts, contracts and drafts under an NDA never leave your computer. No account.

Commercial work

The 35 ready-made voices can be used for anything lawful, including commercial work. Your own voice is yours.

Developers

A built-in, OpenAI-compatible speech API on your computer (/v1/audio/speech), and an MCP speak tool for AI agents.

Be honest

When ElevenLabs is the better pick.

ElevenLabs reads far more languages, has a large voice library, dubbing and very expressive top models, and works on any device through the web. If you need those, it is worth the subscription.

VoicedByMe reads English, Spanish and German, and runs on Windows 10 and 11 and Macs with Apple silicon. If that covers you, it does the everyday work without a meter running.

Questions

How good is the voice clone?

It picks up your tone, pitch and accent from a single twenty-second recording and stays consistent across long documents. A quiet room makes the biggest difference, and the app checks your recording before it clones it.

Can I use the audio commercially?

Yes. The license is for personal or business use, the ready-made voices can be used for anything lawful, and the audio you make is yours. Someone else's voice only with their permission, and label AI audio where the law asks.

Do I need a powerful computer?

A graphics card from the last few years on Windows, or any Mac with Apple silicon, makes it fast. Without a graphics card it still works, more slowly: fine for audio files, too slow for reading live.

Is there an API?

Yes. VoicedByMe runs an OpenAI-compatible speech endpoint on your own computer, and AI agents can use its MCP speak tool. It's off until you turn it on.

How much does it cost?

$30 once for the first 50 customers, then $50. No subscription. The full app is free for one day so you can try it first. A license is for one computer.
