Windows 10 and 11 · Macs with Apple silicon

Offline text to speech, in natural voices or your own.

VoicedByMe is a text to speech app that runs entirely on your computer. It reads any text aloud, turns books and PDFs into audiobooks, and can speak in your own cloned voice, with no internet connection, no account and no subscription: $30 once.

Samples made offline with ready-made voices. All of them are AI-generated.

How it works

Install once. Then no internet.

  1. Install and download the voices

The installer is small. On first start the app downloads its voice model once (1.6 GB) and checks every file. That is the only time it needs the internet.

  2. Choose a voice

Pick one of 35 ready-made voices, or read a short passage for twenty seconds and the app clones your voice, on your computer.

  3. Read anything

Select text in any app and press CtrlAltR (⌃⌥R on a Mac). Or open a document, or drop in a book to make an audiobook.

What you can do offline

Everything, with the Wi-Fi off.

Read selected text in any app

Email, web pages, documents, chat. Speaking starts in under a second, at the speed you like.

Read text on the screen

Press CtrlAltO and drag over a picture, a paused video or a scanned page. The text is recognised on your computer, then read.

Make audiobooks

EPUB, PDF, Word, Markdown or plain text becomes an audiobook with its chapters, made in the background while you work.

Clone your own voice

Twenty seconds of talking is enough. The recording and the voice stay on your computer.

Three languages

English, Spanish and German, even mixed in one document, in the same voice.

Give AI agents a voice

Claude Code, Codex and Cursor connect with one click and tell you out loud when they're done, without going online.

Why offline

Your words stay yours.

Most AI voice tools send your text to a server, read it there and send the audio back. That's a problem for contracts, medical notes, school work, unpublished books and anything under an NDA, and it means paying for every minute you listen.

VoicedByMe runs its voice model on your own graphics card or Apple silicon chip. Nothing you read or record is uploaded, there is no account, and you can listen to as much as you like: no character limits and no monthly plan. It also works on a plane, on a train or behind a strict company firewall.

Questions

Does VoicedByMe work without the internet?

Yes. It needs the internet once, to download its voice model (1.6 GB) after you install it. After that it reads, clones voices and makes audiobooks offline. It checks for updates, which you can switch off.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The voice model runs on your computer, so your text, recordings and audio never reach a server. There is no account to sign up for.

What computer do I need?

Windows 10 or 11, or a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later), and about 2 GB of free space. On Windows, a graphics card from the last few years makes it fast enough to read live; without one it still works, more slowly. On a laptop, plug it in for the best speed.

How is it different from Windows Narrator or the Mac's Spoken Content?

The built-in readers are free and offline too, but their voices sound synthetic and they can't use your voice. VoicedByMe uses a modern AI voice model, so it sounds like a person, and it can clone your own voice from a twenty-second recording.

How much does it cost?

$30 once for the first 50 customers, then $50. No subscription. The full app is free for one day so you can try it first. A license is for one computer.
